Spring on the farmstead? Ab-so-lutely CRAZY. Busy to the point of fault. But not to worry – we are loving every moment of it!
Although the Faulk Farmstead blog has been a bit quiet lately (due to Spring craziness and a super-secret upcoming project!), the farmstead itself has been anything but quiet. Curious what we’ve been up to?
Our resident sheep family has found a new home! We sold our ram, ewe, and lamb to a nearby homesteading family (great folks!). While this was a tough decision, it was the right one for us. They weren’t meshing with our farmies as a whole – and our plates were a bit full. We did, however, cherish the time we had with this little cutie!
This past month, we purchased 10 one-year old layers from a friend of mine, in an attempt to expand our laying flock of chickens. We have been trying desperately to keep up with the demand for eggs from our dear chickens! After a day or two of women-drama, the chickens have finally re-established pecking order and are co-habitating beautifully now!
Curious how Spartacus has been doing? Little Spartacus is, well… Not so little anymore! At just over two months of age, he is almost as big as his mama! What a spunky little kid!! My little homesteader is planning on showing Spartacus in the county fair this year – Movin’ on up! 🙂
And those horns! Holy smokes they have gotten big!
On the subject of Spartacus, he has newly started forming a bond with our dear Sally Gooden. After her ram buddy was sold, she was acting a tad lonely – Lonely enough for me to find her in the neighbor’s yard when I came home from work the other night! Since moving Sally in with the goats, she seems more than content to spend her days playing and head-butting around with Spartacus.
Along with all of the farmie excitement, our garden is also slowly coming along! There is lots of little bits of green popping up all over – nothing to harvest yet, aside from a few early strawberries! No complaints, though!
Before long, I’ll be sharing what I’ve been up to that’s been taking up all of my time – But until then, just know that this farmstead is bustling with activity!
What have YOU been up to this Spring so far? Share with all of us and post in the comments!
