Homemade Lemon Sugar

Frugality is the act of using money or supplies in a prudent way.

I truly aim to waste very little in our home.  You can imagine my disdain when I found a Meyer Lemon that had rolled behind a jar on my counter, threatening to ripen past the point of no return.

Quite a shame for the mighty Meyer Lemon.  ” Ah, what to do with it?”, I pondered.

Homemade Lemon Sugar!  Why not?!  Perfect for baking, garnishing desserts, or rimming your cocktail glass!  Sure!

Homemade Lemon Sugar

Zest from one Meyer lemon

1 cup sugar (I use this brand)

Combine lemon zest and sugar in a food processor.  Pulse until combined well – Mine took on the appearance of powdered sugar at this point.  Spread the sugar out on a baking sheet that’s been lined with parchment paper and allow to air dry for two hours.

At this point it is ready to use!  Place in a cute mason jar and store in the refrigerator for up to three weeks.

  1. Oooh, I am so excited about this! My boyfriend’s absolute favorite flavor is lemon and, like you, I hate wasting anything. I have a few lemons rolling around in my fridge that are just screaming to be made into lemon sugar this afternoon 🙂

    1. Perfect! I have been trying to think of new ways to use it – Already anticipating summery lemonade with this on the glass rims! 🙂
