‘Nighty Night… Lavender Sleepytime Tonic

I’m a busy girl.  I admit this. I try to do everything – but can’t. Nor can I fall asleep easily at night. This is due to a terrible syndrome called mom-that-tries-to-do-it-all-and-lays-awake-thinking-about-how-to-do-it-all-itis. Ha!  Bet you didn’t know it had a name, huh?  Oh yes, it does. I’ll be honest – my remedy used to consist of a Tylenol PM before bed.  Unfortunately, this left me feeling more than a little groggy in the morning.  NOT conducive to the things I need to do in the morning.  Like drive to work.  Like make lunches for kids.  Like – function.  Needless to say, when I started on the path of living life more naturally, I knew I needed an alternate solution. I used to be a nightly tea drinker – and still am.  But sometimes, you need a little something more.  Two things that work wonders for sleep-induction are lavender and warm milk.  Mmmmmm…..  Already feeling relaxed?  Here we go…. Lavender Sleepytime Tonic

  • 1 cup raw milk (or whatever type of milk your sweet heart desires)
  • 1 tablespoon real organic maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon loose-leaf lavender/chamomile tea (I use Lavender Lace tea found herePlease note, I am an Amazon affiliate)

Start by steaming your milk – please don’t let it come to a boil.  Just a light steam, mind you.  While waiting for your milk, put your maple syrup and vanilla in the bottom of your mug and get your loose-leaf tea ready in an infuser (I use one similar to this one).

Once your milk is nice and steamy, pour over your tea and allow to steep for about 5 minutes.

Remove your tea infuser and give it a swirl with a spoon. Last instruction – and this is a VERY important one: curl up with your mug and RELAX! Heaven in a Minnie Mouse mug, y’all… (NOTE: No final “after” pic – I couldn’t wait to drink it and gulped it half gone before I realized I forgot to snap a pic.  Oops.)

  1. Mel, I was going to buy the tea through your Amazon store (also, I’m obsessed with adding items to mine… it’s ridic!) but the link didn’t work! 🙁 I’ll wait until it’s working to buy! 🙂
